Being the most common cause of cancer in society today, skin cancer can take on many shapes or forms, which means there are many possible treatment options. Malignant Melanomas are the most serious and often require treatment from other specialists. Dr. Serrurier performs a lot of melanoma surgery, including any lymph node surgery that may be required. He works closely with 3 oncology groups that specialize in treating Melanoma.

 

Non-pigmented skin cancers [Squamous Cell Carcinoma or Basal Cell Carcinoma] are more common than melanoma. ​They are not nearly as dangerous as melanoma; however, the excision and immediate reconstruction of these skin cancers is a complex procedure.

 

Dr. Serrurier always uses a pathologist who performs an intra-operative assessment of the tumour under the microscope. This makes sure that he has removed all cancer cells.Once he knows this, he will use his reconstructive toolbox to perform a reconstruction that heals well and optimizes the cosmetic outcome. These procedures can often be performed in the rooms with local anaesthesia.
